Employment:
The
recent firings of large groups of employees at our nation's airports
along with highly publicized accounts of executives with fraudulent
resumes raises the questions of " do you know who you are hiring".
Swayed by the cost savings approach of not having to pay employee benefits,
many companies select employment agencies to fill their hiring needs.
Seldom, if ever, do companies request documentation as to: reference
checks: proof of school graduation: drug screening results: credibility
of documents showing the candidate can work in the United States, felony
conviction records and validation of the accuracy of so called employment
aptitude tests (which differ from validated job fit assessments).. Your
employment vendors owe you this data. If not, select another vendor.
And what is the relationship of the employment agency to your human
resource department? Gifts, gratuities, even kickbacks are not uncommon.
A policy prohibiting them, and its enforcement are essential. If you
are unable to identify your hiring costs, consider hiring an impartial
outside consultant.
